Junior Mechanical Designer

Quick Summary:

Opus has an immediate opening for a Junior Mechanical Designer. In this position, you will work with sales staff, senior designers and project engineers to create designs of unique automation systems.

Some of the job responsibilities are:

Design work:

  • Importing and translating CAD data from SolidWorks, Catia, etc. into 3D Inventor models.
  • Importing Layouts into AutoCAD (2D) or Inventor (3D)
  • Create working drawings in native CAD format to a high standard as needed for internal and external shops
  • Work with vendors to gather quotations for custom and standard components needed to implement designs

Simulation work:

  • Gather and implement correct process info to data used for simulation study
  • Reach study analysis for interferences, position/location issues and cell layout validation
  • Export equipment positional data from simulation environment to layouts
  • Running Swept Volumes for Robot per Customer requirements
  • Create/produce Simulation related documentation per Customer requirements

In General:

  • Able to give / take direction depending on the capacity the job requires
  • Able to read and understand industrial mechanical schematics
  • Other duties as required

Education, Experience, and Capabilities:

As a qualified Junior Mechanical Designer candidate, you MUST possess the following skills, experience and education:

  • A team player with great communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good understanding of robotic automation and Fixture Tools, Robot End of Arm Tooling, Conveyor systems
  • Knowledge of Mechanical Design Software including AutoDesk Inventor (preferred), SolidWorks, SolidEdge, or Catia
  • Knowledge of CAD or Process Simulate software
  • Capable of working individually or as part of a team
  • 2 plus years of experience with Design or educational experience working experience with CAD
  • A university/college degree and/or diploma in Engineering Field (Mechanical Design or Automation from a recognized institution)
